All these phases, as is mentioned in previous articles of this series, are split into two basic classes: first phase and secretory phase. Stage 2 of mitosis, secretory phase, is what we usually call the start of mitosis. To put it differently, the secretory stage is also the second stage of mitosis. From the diagram below, I will use the picture of a division of mitosis to two major phases. Among those phases, referred to as secretory phase, is shown in red and will be another in sequence to the conclusion of the first stage. To be able to make the diagram more apparent, I will use a short phrase, which refers to the second stage of mitosis: the secretory phase. From the diagram, the stage indicated with the picture is displayed in red. This phase is the first one in the order, which is discussed in earlier posts of the series. In the next stage, that in orange, one sees the initiation of mitosis, which starts the next stage of mitosis, that is the second stage of mitosis that is displayed in the diagram. Because it's apparent from the above image, an individual can easily understand the difference between both stages of mitosis. Now, the question remains as to what is the initial phase of mitosis. Actually, the first stage of mitosis is divided into three stages; each one having its own name. The title of the phase is busy mitosis, active secretory stage, and postponed mitosis. The cells that unite with each other are called spermatogonia, and they get specialized for the job of fertilization. The two spermatocytes and oocytes came under the category of spermatocytes. The first phase of mitosis, the busy secretory phase, occurs when the spermatocytes multiply and divide several times. One spermatocyte fertilizes one egg cell, and the result is a spermatocyte and its own egg counterpart. The next phase of mitosis, referred to as the delayed secretory stage, is split into two stages. The very first one is called delayed branch and is marked by the creation of small clumps of cells known as spermatids and the second phase of mitosis is known as post-mating branch.
